SAAQ Road Safety Knowledge Test: Because Knowing is Half The Battle!

As we near the end of Motorcycle Safety Month, I thought it would be interesting to share with you the chance to test your road safety knowledge! The Société de l'Assurance Automobile du Québec (SAAQ) offers you the opportunity to test your road safety knowledge with 60 questions divided over two vehicle types - automobiles (class 5) and motorcycles (class 6). Whilst it may be tempting to do just the test for motorcycles, remember that the best offence is a good defense! Whilst the test questions are not a direct replica of the knowledge test itself they are similar enough to help you gain insight into how to navigate Québec roads. The system chooses from roughly 500 questions so doing the test once doesn't mean that the same questions will present themselves a second time around. Below are some of the questions with correct answers to give you an idea of what to expect!

The above five questions and answers are just some of the random questions that will be asked and are different to the ones that I saw when I took the test the first time. Some of the questions you will come across are taken directly from your theory books whilst others are reworded specifically for the purpose of the theory test itself. Overall, I often find myself going over the questions at the beginning of each riding season as it's a great refresher as well as an opportunity to get my kids involved with road safety. Whilst they are not motorcyclists just yet, they do ride bicycles and the laws in Québec are becoming more and more applicable to cyclists as well. Whilst Québec's bureaucratic nonsense towards motorcyclists is the stuff of legend at this point, this is one of those areas that I can't help but support as there's no harm in becoming an expert motorcyclist, or automobilist! The best revenge is to live well and that sentiment applies here. Ride well, disprove the naysayers and let's make motorcycling one of the safest forms of transportation available today!
