Inked By Todd Beck - No. 13 & 14

Final Racer
I had the pleasure of meeting up with Todd Beck today to continue my sleeve. He completed two tattoos! The racer is our final Offering to the God of Speed as the sleeve itself is missing only one final piece on my shoulder with the remainder being filled in the next few weeks. In the meantime, I need to extend my deepest apologies to Todd as I failed him today when it came to doing the piece on my chest.

Work In Progress Thanks To My Ticklish Nipple Area :-(
Having had completed my left arm and soon my right arm (i.e. elbow = ouch), my two hands and my left ankle I had underestimated what it would be like to tattoo my chest again. I had my upper chest tattooed by Noémie from Nephty's Tattoo last year with some script related to Popeye. It didn't phase me and I found myself actually looking forward to having the BSA tattooed on my chest today by Todd. It is similar in style to the Norton that he tattooed on my right arm earlier this year. The experience, however, left something to be desired for both of us. Whilst the top part of the tattoo was painful, that wasn't the problem. In fact, you can see in the picture above that the details are fine as I bore through the discomfort. However, nothing could have prepared either Todd or myself for what would happen the closer we got to my nipple. Ticklish is putting it lightly. I laughed so hard and uncontrollably that any hope that Todd had to place details on the tattoo soon diminished. Todd has squarely refused to tattoo my chest again... or my ribs... or probably any part of me ever again. Live and learn! Give Todd a shout today if you're looking for a great tattoo! 😜

Inked by Crystal-Marie - Part 4

Left Arm Complete!
After a year my left arm is finally complete! Noémie and Crystal-Marie did a great job on the mandalas on my arm and hand (in said order). Ms. Eternal Sunshine (aka Crystal-Marie) was also patient enough to finish my left sleeve two weeks ago by adding the intricate Norse pattern that you see above and below. The pattern itself will also adorn my right arm and part of my upper chest in the weeks to come.

Close Up of the Norse Pattern!
The experience of being tattooed by so many great artists has also given me a chance to learn from veterans in the field as my own apprenticeship continues, albeit at a slow pace. It's helped me gauge not only the different styles but the different tools of the trade as well. More on the latter to come. One thing is for certain, it's time to start putting myself out there and tattooing people on a regular basis. In the meantime, feel free to contact Crystal-Marie for a great tattoo today!

The Not So Secret World Of Quilting...

Yaas! Pin basted and ready to quilt! I will not start another year with this as an unfinished quilt top. I started it when our daughter was about 6 months old and it’s been finished for a year but just couldn’t get it past that stage. Every bit except the borders handpieced! All this being completed in my Quilting Room!

Inked By Todd Beck - No. 11 & 12

The Finish Line Is In Sight!
As we near the end of filling in my right arm Todd Beck decided to continue with something more traditional and cool this week! The little Vespa scooter racer and the larger golden racer are a nice Offering to the God of Speed. We will be putting in another racer in the week or so to come, along with adding something to the right shoulder that will be balance it out with my left one. Then Ms. Crystal-Marie will be filling in the rest with a pattern that will be revealed tomorrow! I have some ideas for my chest and look forward to starting the latter in the new year. In the meantime, give Todd a shout today if you're looking for a great tattoo! 😜

A Brief History of Three Wheeled Motorcycles By Dahlia Houle

Three-wheeled motorcycles were designed for very specific purposes. According to Auguste Van Poelgeest, three-wheeled vehicles were used to deliver packages and as economical commuter vehicles. These vehicles gained popularity after the Second World War since they could “offer space, weight and aerodynamic benefits leading to reduced emissions.” (Poelgeest, 2011, p.3) Antony Ingram supports Patrick E. George’s claim, that three-wheeled vehicles were very popular around the 20th century. They had a very low cost and were lightweight vehicles, which made it easier for people at that time to make their way around.

Inked by Crystal-Marie - Part 3

After getting my right hand tattooed with TinTin on a Motorcycle by Todd Beck, I decided it was time to finish what I started a year ago, namely my left arm and hand. You may recall that Noémie from Nephty's Tattoo did a great job on the mandalas on my left arm. However, I thought what better way to tie my left and right arms together than to have the tattoo artist who completed my back tattoo do the work, Ms. Eternal Sunshine herself, Crystal-Marie. The hand isn't the easiest place to tattoo but Crystal-Marie did a great job and certainly left her mark with this piece. I especially like how intricate it is. This officially marks the beginning of the end, so to speak as there isn't much real estate left on my arms! I have been very lucky this past year to have had work done by three fantastic tattoo artists right here in Sherbrooke, Quebec.

Criminological Perspectives: Quebec 1% Biker Wars By Keisha Tomasik

Pic © Valily Jewelry
In the province of Quebec, the 5th of December 1977 marks the birth of an important club that will later evolve into an organized crime based club, the Hells Angels. Known firstly as the Popeye's, this group counted 17 members and began its expansion once it was able to chase the rivals, The Outlaws, out of the country. Forward a couple of years and the Canadian Criminal Intelligence Service qualified the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club as the most important threat to the country. (Blanchet, 2017, p.19) As Sylvain Boulanger, an ex-biker of the Hells Angels mentions, “killing the opposition and making money” (Blanchet, 2017, p.9) are the main goals for the club. This is precisely what led to the reddening of the streets of Montreal and it’s outskirts in the mid 1990’s, due to the raging war in between the Hells Angels and the Rock Machines (Renaud, 2016, p.20). Driven by the desire for both clubs to have the monopoles of the drug trafficking in Quebec, this war caused 165 deaths and 181 injuries from 1994 to 2002 (Blanchet, 2017, p.11).

Inked By Todd Beck - No. 10

Inevitably Todd and I decided to continue with something more playful this week! Having grown up watching Popeye The Sailor Man on T.V. when I was a kid, I couldn't help myself and decided to go for this classic little piece of history. The space on my arm was proving to be difficult to fill in because of the position of the other tattoos, however, this one slid into place just perfectly! You may not realize it but this was also a cover up! Whilst his namesake has been misused over the years by the likes of fast food restaurants and muscle building protein shops (ugh...), I like to think of him as that lovesick fool always protecting his darling Olive from Bluto! Fun fact, did you know his name was even affiliated with a 1% motorcycle club here in Montreal until being patched over in 1977 by the Hell's Angels? Anyways, like Tin Tin, Popeye always had a special place in my heart. Here's a fun little tune for all of ye nostalgic fans:

I'm Popeye the Sailor Man,
I'm Popeye the Sailor Man.
I'm strong to the finich
Cause I eats me spinach.
I'm Popeye the Sailor Man.

I'm one tough Gazookus
Which hates all Palookas
Wot ain't on the up and square.
I biffs 'em and buffs 'em
And always out roughs 'em
But none of 'em gets nowhere.

If anyone dares to risk my "Fisk",
It's "Boff" an' it's "Wham" un'erstan'?
So keep "Good Be-hav-or"
That's your one life saver
With Popeye the Sailor Man.

I'm Popeye the Sailor Man,
I'm Popeye the Sailor Man.
I'm strong to the finich
Cause I eats me spinach.
I'm Popeye the Sailor Man.

Give Todd a shout today if you're looking for a great tattoo! 😜
