Meet Garfield - My Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport 4X4!

Meet Garfield - My 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport 4X4
Pic © Sherbrooke Toyota
To say that I am not a car or truck guy would be fair. The only vehicles that aren't motorcycles that I enjoy are classics, hence why I purchased Bertie, my 1972 VW Bus whom is still at the shop in case you were wondering. I needed something that would be fun, practical and usable in winter as some of the country roads in my neck of the woods is squirrely at the best of times in winter. I wanted something that would be fun a la Honda Africa Twin if we ever decided to do some light off roading and camping. Something that I could throw a couple of kids motocross in the back or maybe even a kayak. Something I could go camping with or like most people, a practical vehicle that will save me money on renting trailers from U-Haul or shipping costs when we go to IKEA or Costco. I know that Jennifer already has plans to visit the garden centre this spring! In short, I needed something that would serve us well should the Zombie Apocalypse come to fruition but that could blend in seamlessly in the meantime as to not draw suspicion of our fears of zombies in general.

Sneak Peek: Tempting Fate - Hear No Evil, See No Evil, Speak No Evil By Mario RJ Corbin

Tempting Fate - Hear No Evil, See No Evil, Speak No Evil
My client, Jesse, has decided to commission a full sleeve based on and inspired by Norse mythology. We decided to take things a few steps further by bringing a few of the myths to life with contemporary actors. Using photographs of Keira Knightley, Scarlett Johansson and Megan Fox (Jesse’s top 3 actors) I have given the Three Fates a new look and style that has been unseen before (at least to my knowledge). However, I didn’t stop there! Playing on an old parable, each actor has been further transformed to accommodate Hear No Evil, See No Evil and Speak No Evil. Some details are still missing from this draft, including shading. I have really enjoyed doing dot work and am looking forward to starting this new project with Jesse soon. Stay tuned for future instalments of this sleeve! Looking to start a new tattoo project? I’ll be happy to help you come up with your own Norse inspired tattoo. Book a consultation today!

TOUCH UP: Foreshadowing A Shadowhunter - Inked By Mario RJ Corbin

TOUCH UP: Foreshadowing A Shadowhunter
I touched up this piece today. It’s an angelic rune from the popular television show Shadowhunters. However, I also added some highlights including dot work to the tattoo. I think it gives the tattoo a much nicer look overall and helps draw your eyes to the little runes falling away from her shoulder blade. The latter was accentuated with pink lines in and around them to help highlight them further. Since first tattooing my client I have already learned and have grown so much as an apprentice. It’s been a fantastic journey and I am grateful to all of my clients, past, present and future for their support and skin! 😉

Lilies In The Moonlight By Mario RJ Corbin

Lilies In The Moonlight

Using a photograph of a moon and several individual lilies as inspiration, I drew this tattoo for the lovely @miss_c_kelly, a former student of mine back when I use to teach in the Republic of Ireland. It’s elegant and classy and leaves plenty of room for Miss Kelly and her tattoo artist in Ireland to make it her own. I’ll be happy to help you come up with your own floral inspired tattoo. Wanderlust By Mario RJ Corbin

Wanderlust
Using a photograph of an anchor and a lighthouse as inspiration, I drew this tattoo for a potential client. It still needs some shading and perhaps even some dot work but overall I quite like the outcome. It’s given me a serious case of wanderlust! I’ll be happy to help you come up with your own travel inspired tattoo. Book a consultation today!

From Concept To Skin: Uniquely Canadian - Inked By Mario RJ Corbin

Video By Jesse Herring

This custom tattoo was put together using photographs of a Great Horned Owl, the Three Sisters Mountains in Alberta, Canada and finally Maurice Richard (number 9) of the Montreal Canadians. It doesn’t get much more Canadian than this! Kudos goes out to Dawson as this was his first tattoo. All three tattoos were completed in one sitting! Looking to have some work done? From Concept To Skin: Norse Runes - Inked By Mario RJ Corbin

Norse Runes
Tattooing a quote from Deuteronomy 31:6 on the side of Jesse’s body was just the beginning. Today we found ourselves tattooing no less than eight Norse Runes on his fingers. Jesse was kind enough to send me this image. From left to right they mean Strength, Warrior, Defence, Protection, Growth, Wholeness, Joy and Flow. The beauty is in the simplicity of it all and these Runes will provide Jesse with the strength to face any challenges that lie ahead. Looking to have some work done? Book a consultation today!

Don’t Be Crabby! By Mario RJ Corbin

Astrology 101: Cancer Under Moon
Using a photograph of a crab and a moon as inspiration, I drew this astrology tattoo for a potential client. Representing the astrological sign Cancer, it still needs some shading but overall I like the effect of the dot work. I’ll be happy to help you come up with your astrology tattoo. For The Love of Art With Joel Corbin

The following are just a small collection of my oldest son's artwork. It is because of him that I found myself renewing my own love of art; a love that inevitably entrenched me in a modest little tattoo business.  Whilst the drawings here are just a handful of some of his most recent work, his interests range from soap sculptures, drawing, painting and other assortment of art that he has dabbled in over the course of the last year. He is an inspiring little gem that helps me find my inner child - even if I can't always express it in a way that I wish I could. Enjoy!

Don’t Judge a Book by its Cover By Mario RJ Corbin

Feeling Bookish?
Looking for something different? This design is an example of a whimsical tattoo using various elements that a customer requested. The books and aster flower were drawn up using actual photographs of real books and flowers, hence setting this tattoo flash apart from similar designs. The names on the books can be changed including the font types using dafont.com. I used the actual formula for love in the background and finished it off with paw and hoof prints and a paper airplane as per my client’s request (the shadow of the paper airplane is of a Star Wars A-Wing Fighter). These are sweet tattoos and I can custom design a similar one for you upon request! Book a consultation today!

From Concept To Skin: Deuteronomy 31:6 - Inked By Mario RJ Corbin

Deuteronomy 31:6
Whilst I am not one to shy away from a challenge, this particular piece today left me looking for the strength and courage to persevere. Tattooing a quote from Deuteronomy 31:6 on the side of Jesse’s body was not unlike trying to chisel stone. A great guy and soon to be model, Jesse was kind enough to send me this image of the tattoo that I completed for him today. Looking to have some work done? Book a consultation today!

From Concept To Skin: Narcissus Reflection - Inked By Mario RJ Corbin

Narcissus Reflection
I completed this fun academic piece for one of my many returning customers, Audrey. Here is a description of who Narcissus was and his relationship to the flower named after him (called a Daffodil in English): “Narcissus, in Greek mythology, the son of the river god Cephissus and the nymph Liriope. He was distinguished for his beauty. According to Ovid’s Metamorphoses, Book III, Narcissus’s mother was told by the blind seer Tiresias that he would have a long life, provided he never recognized himself. However, his rejection of the love of the nymph Echo or (in an earlier version) of the young man Ameinias drew upon him the vengeance of the gods. He fell in love with his own reflection in the waters of a spring and pined away (or killed himself); the flower that bears his name sprang up where he died. The Greek traveler and geographer Pausanias, in Description of Greece, Book IX, said it was more likely that Narcissus, to console himself for the death of his beloved twin sister, his exact counterpart, sat gazing into the spring to recall her features” (Britannica, 2018). Who said tattoos can’t be educational! 😉 Looking for your next tattoo? Book a consultation today! If I can’t do it, I’ll recommend an artist who can!

From Concept To Skin: The Girl With A Rose Tattoo - Tim Burton Sleeve Part IV Inked By Mario RJ Corbin

Heart Shaped Rose On Hand
Ms. St. Pierre dropped by today to add to her Tim Burton Sleeve. This session saw the addition of a pumpkin and a small rose to the upper sleeve. The biggest addition was the heart rose on her hand! Like most things Burtonesque, the heart rose was the perfect way to tie together the romances between some of Ms. St. Pierre’s favourite characters. Stay tuned for future installments! P.S. The Cheshire Cat Tattoo in the photo is healed!

From Concept To Skin: Honour Thy Family! Inked By Mario RJ Corbin

Douglas Clan Coat of Arms
In addition to his Three Peas in a Pod tattoo, my client, Chris, decided to continue his family sleeve with his family’s coat of arms. Decedent from the Douglas clan in Scotland, Chris wanted a reimagining if this famous clan’s coat of arms. As it turns out there have been several iterations of the design over the centuries and hence I decided to combine some of the elements. The end result was this fresh take on a traditional design that wouldn’t look out of place on the nose of a military plane or even sports team jersey. Need help turning an idea into reality? 8 Steps To Becoming A Tattoo Artist By Mario RJ Corbin

Becoming a Tattoo Artist
Whether your inspiration to become a tattoo artist was derived from having watched one too many reality television shows or because you found a niche market where you can make use of those artistic skills that, up until this point have been nothing more than a passing hobby (or habit during math class), the fact remains that all tattoo artists start off at a similar place. Ask any reputable tattoo artist how to start tattooing and you may find that every single one of them has a different response. The issue, you see, is that the industry is akin to the Wild West. Sure, there are areas that are more civilized than others, but the culture of the industry has also made it one of the most difficult and unforgiving to enter. It was out of necessity or something else more akin to protectionism (both, perhaps?) the tattoo industry has had its fair share of discrimination and economic hardships over the last century in western countries like the United States of America, Canada and the United Kingdom. Social perceptions of tattooing have made it one of the most controversial and secretive past times. This is despite the fact that body modification, including tattooing, has been happening since time immemorial. I digress.

Fun With Tattoo Practice Skin With Patrick Fawcett!

Fun With Fake Skin By Patrick Fawcett
This past summer my brother in law, Patrick, came to visit and in doing so, he purchased himself an Apprentice Tattoo Pen Kit from World Wide Tattoo Supply. Patrick is quite the artist has already shared some of his previous work on this site. Thus, it is only common sense for him to pursue a possible career in tattooing. He has been working hard to practice his shading and line work over the last five months. He lives in Prague, Czech Republic and thus, has had to balance tattoo practice between his regular day job. That being said, I think he is off to an awesome start. Soon Patrick will also be going to his local tattoo studios to see if he can't get an apprenticeship. Practice skin is a great way to practice and is a more sanitary option to pigskin. I hope to share more of Patrick's story with you as time goes on. Keep up the great work Patrick!

From Concept To Skin: The Widow’s Children - Inked By Mario RJ Corbin

The Widow's Children
Recently my client decided to add another tattoo to represent her three children. You may recall that she had the Day of The Dead Girl tattooed on her upper arm a few weeks back. These skulls were put together using InktionCo floral and mandala designs. The overall look is rather pretty if not haunting. The names of each child will be added in future along with other floral patterns and a mandala that I will be making using Staedtler Mandala Creator. I particularly enjoyed completing this tattoo and look forward to doing more like these in future. Interested in getting a new tattoo? Book a consultation today!

From Concept To Skin: I Put A Spell On You! - Inked By Mario RJ Corbin

I Put A Spell On You!
Having approved the rough draft that I had put together earlier this week, Celine Pare dropped by today all the way from Montreal to have this piece tattooed on her lower back. I used elements from staedtler mandala creator and some Henna patterns that I found online. I also used two flower designs by Amirun Shah, owner of InktionCo. The centre piece is an anti-possession symbol from the television show Supernatural which seemed rather appropriate as she ended up watching the new Netflix series The Exorcist towards the half way point of our session. There were some changes to the rough draft and in the end my hat goes off to Celine as she was a real trooper.

Parenting German Shepherds With Children: Part Deux - A Recipe For A Lovely Autumnal October!

Recipe For The Perfect Autumnal Season
What better way to say farewell to summer than to spend the autumnal season with two German Shepherds and our lovely children. Since moving into our new (to us) house, opening up a tattoo studio and adopting a second (albeit senior) german shepherd this past Spring (not including our regular jobs - no less than four between the two of us), we have found ourselves busier than ever. It's a wonder that we ever find the time to relax, let alone get out there and have fun with the kids (including our dogs). Our biggest challenge has been adapting to life with two big, clumsy yet playful and sweet dogs. Finding a place to walk them has often been a challenge as we have already experienced some issues with locals who are ignorant about the breed. That being said, our dogs, Rosie and Leo, whilst boisterous; at times obnoxious (barking at squirrels and other dogs), sometimes downright annoying (why can't they do all their pooping in one spot instead of leaving a trail a la Hansel & Gretel?!) have otherwise been a joy to have as part of our lives.

From Concept To Skin: Day of the Dead Girl - Inked By Mario RJ Corbin

Day of the Dead Girl

I completed this lovely lady for a lovely lady in two sessions. It’s my first Day of the Dead Girl and hopefully not my last. I really enjoyed this one as I got to use a variety of colours. I felt like I was painting a mural again. Overall this was a rewarding piece in so many ways. I’ll be adding some other tattoos around it in the coming months, so stay tuned.

From Concept To Skin: Three Peas in a Pod - Inked by Mario RJ Corbin

3 Peas in a Pod

This was a short and sweet piece for a new client wanting to have something to represent his three kids. His wife already has the same tattoo. The design was created by his sister in law. Overall, an enjoyable experience. Update - this tattoo is all healed and ready to be shown off (see below).

From Concept To Skin: Getting Oogie Boogie With Lock, Shock and Barrel - Inked By Mario RJ Corbin

Tim Burton Sleeve Part III
Ms. St. Pierre dropped by today to add to her Tim Burton inspired half sleeve that, after due consideration is becoming a full sleeve. This session was short and sweet as we added a few fan favourites including Lock, Shock and Barrel to name but a few. Like most things Burtonesque, the sleeve seems to be taking a life of its own. Ms. St. Pierre is an absolute star and pleasure to work with. Stay tuned for future instalments!

From Concept To Skin: Tribal Wolf - Inked By Mario RJ Corbin

Tribal Wolf
For his 3rd instalment my buddy, Michel, decided to add a tribal wolf to his on going sleeve. This was a fun piece not least of all because of how well he and I get along. Though somewhat of a technical piece, not least of all because of its placement, I am thrilled with how this pup turned out! Stay tuned for future instalments!

Another Tattoo By "Weird Al" Yankovic Helped Inspire Me To Revamp My Website: YeOldeCockTattooEmporium.COM

Another Tattoo By Weird Al Yankovic

I came across this song today by "Weird Al" Yankovic and thought it was too good not to share. It helped inspire me to revamp my website and in doing so, make it more appealing to anyone with a  funny bone. Since starting to tattoo six months ago I have found myself immersed in an entirely different world filled with creativity and positive energy. Whilst there have been moments of self-doubt, indeed, even some lackluster experiences with fellow tattoo artists (you know who you are), I can't help but feel like said experiences are the minority in what has otherwise been a very fulfilling and rewarding experience. It's opened my eyes to the reality that our identities are not bound by our professions. Which is a good thing, because, despite popular opinion, academia sucks (or rather, the people who manage it).

Fun With Henna & Mandala Designs - Flash Sale

I used elements from staedtler mandala creator and some Henna patterns that I found online. This was designed for someone with a small hand but it can be placed somewhere else or enlarged to fit any part of your body. It's a simple yet elegant design and amongst several that are now available (see below). Book a consultation today!

From Concept To Skin: It's The Little Things In Life - Inked By Mario RJ Corbin

I completed this today for a client looking to add to her eclectic array of tattoos. The Ellipsis and Semicolon was completed using a 7RL and Eternal Ink (black). What began as a touch up of some script that I had completed earlier this summer turned out to be a mini tattoo session. All in all, it's the little things in life and today was no exception.

From Concept to Skin: Foreshadowing A Shadowhunter - Inked By Mario RJ Corbin

I completed this piece for a former student of mine. It’s an angelic rune from the popular television show Shadowhunters. The devil is in the details and this simple piece turned out to be more of a challenge than expected. if for no other reason than the runes themselves are akin to writing. I gave it a distressed look to ensure that the three colours, pink, light purple and dark purple blended in properly. This is actually one of the first tattoos that I have done that could be completed in one sitting as I have been predominantly preoccupied with completing half and full sleeves for other clients.

From Concept To Skin: The Mad Hatter's Tea Party With Victor, Emily & The Cheshire Cat - Inked By Mario RJ Corbin

Pic © Ms. Eriika St. Pierre

Jack & Sally from A Nightmare Before Christmas was just the the beginning of my client's half sleeve. She returned this past weekend to add some more Tim Burton inspired creations to her half sleeve. She was kind enough to send me this picture. Victor and Emily from a Corpse Bride were a must have as was the Mad-Hatter played by Johnny Depp and the Cheshire Cat for good measure. With only one session left to go, we have plans on filling in the half sleeve with several other characters from Burton's universe. Unlike the first session, there nothing to cover up this time. There are still several details to add including some white highlights, etc. However, we are both excited to see the end result once we finish up and put the final touches to everything.

From Concept To Skin: Ohana Script - Inked By Mario RJ Corbin

Word of mouth is a wonderful thing and despite my reservations about doing script, it seems that I am the only one who has them. Fortunately, my client decided that she wanted something simple and in a font that wasn't going to give me an aneurism. In fact, surprisingly, this was the easiest time I have had doing script and found this particular style from DaFont very easy and natural feeling to work with. It is called Beauty (ugh, the names they come up with) and was designed by PremiereGraphics. There was a bit of back and forth about the placement of the word Ohana itself as normally this area of the hand is notorious for not holding ink well. However, seventeen days later and it's still there and only slightly faded in some parts. Naturally I'll touch the latter up when my client has a free moment. At this point, I'll happily take the small wins as they help to remind me that script especially is not such an impossible task. After all, it's the little things in life that count, right?

Toronto To Moosonee, James Bay on a Triumph Bonneville By Chris Thomson (aka Beakster)

The Legend Returns!
I decided it was time for an adventure on my bike.  I’d already been east all the way to Cape Breton in Nova Scotia the previous month, so this time I decided to head north. After a quick check on Google Maps it seemed the furthest North I could go from Toronto was a place called Moosonee.  I knew nothing about it so did a bit of research online. It appeared that there wasn’t much there, and access was only possible by plane, winter road or train.  So far as I could tell the tarmac stopped not far north of Cochrane but there was a gravel road as far as Otter Rapids.  I’d try to asses how drivable the winter road would be in summer by zooming in on Google Maps’ satellite view, but it was hard to tell.  It seemed like the train was capable of loading bikes and I found on old thread on AdvRider where some guys took their bikes on the same Polar Bear Express train, so I was pretty confident I could get myself and my Triumph Bonneville to Moosonee so I packed my bags and prepared the bike.

The Joys & Tribulations Of Creating Mandalas: Staedtler's Mandala Creator

Mandala That I Designed Using 4 out of the 6 Layers
on Staedtler.com Mandala Creator.
Having had several mandalas created by the very talented Noémie Rosa Tatouage, I know how precise the art of mandala making needs to be. Thus, I was rather excited when I came across Staedtler's Mandala Creator. It allows you to create your own mandala and comes loaded with options to create something unique and personal. A great tool for any tattoo artist or apprentice looking to create unique mandalas for themselves or their clients. Inevitably, it also begs the question: what about the human factor? When a client approached me to put together a mandala for her earlier this summer, admittedly, I felt out of my depth. I had drawn up several rough drafts (see below) and whilst the general consensus was that they were pretty, they would not be suitable for tattooing. The latter became especially clear to me when I posted four of my designs on Photo Tatouage on Facebook for constructive feedback.

DesTinaTion: St. Gabriel de Brandon - Father & Son Motorcycle Trip On a Moto Guzzi V7 Racer - Day 3!

Last Leg of Our 3 Day Trip - 20 minutes outside of St. Gabriel de Brandon
After our visit to L'Épopée de la Moto, we began our journey towards St. Gabriel de Brandon. The road less travelled would take just over five hours to get us there as opposed to three and a half hours by highway. So we decided to compromise and take the back roads as a way of getting to see some of the scenic views that places like Trois-Rivières had to offer but otherwise highways so we could get to our destination quicker. For good measure, we booked a room in advance at La Cache du Lac Motel which is just a stone's throw away from Lac Maskinonge. This final leg of our journey would be bittersweet as it would also be a trip down memory lane for me. Thus, I was looking forward to returning for a variety of reasons, not least of all because I wanted to share this childhood summer hangout with my son.

From Concept To Skin: Jack & Sally Infinitely In Love in A Nightmare Before Christmas - Inked By Mario RJ Corbin

Jack & Sally Infinitely In Love
(Work In Progress)
One day you're tattooing an infinity sign on someone and the next day you're covering an infinity sign up on someone else. 😊 I had the pleasure of meeting Ms. St. Pierre today and her lovely husband to be, Mr. Houde all thanks to Ms Méthot whom I recently tattooed script for. Adding to the excitement was the fact that this was a cover up! However, having the chance to tattoo a Tim Burton classic was the cherry on top of the cake and I found myself really looking forward to it. This was a particularly long session due to the fact that I spent a lot of time trying to make sure that everything was working the way it needed to in order to both cover up the infinity sign but equally, ensure a great quality tattoo in the end. Whilst the end result is not technically finished yet (still have to work on Sally's hand, the tombstone, etc, overall both Ms. St. Pierre and myself were quite pleased with the result to date. This is the start of a half (maybe full?) sleeve and I am looking forward to continuing it in the weeks/months ahead.

From Concept To Skin: The Joys & Tribulations Of Tattooing Script Part Deux - Inked By Mario RJ Corbin

Fun With Script Part Deux - Fantastic Reason & Old Newspaper Type
Since Life After Cobra, my friend decided that he would continue his sleeve with with a fishing lure with his father's and uncle's name inside of it. As well, he wanted the names of his two children with their birthdays in roman numerals. For good measure, his better half also decided that she wanted an infinity sign with her children's names in it as well. Thus, suffice it to say, the challenge to master the art of tattooing script seems to be a continuing theme this month. I find myself hopelessly overwhelmed by the latter. Regardless, I persevered and fortunately, both clients were happy with their tattoos today.

DesTinaTion: L'Épopée de la Moto - Father & Son Motorcycle Trip On a Moto Guzzi V7 Racer - Day 2!

What better way to arrive to a motorcycle museum than on one!
With over 350+ kilometers under our belt after day one, we found ourselves awake bright and early and ready to tackle whatever the open road had planned for us that day. L'Épopée de la Moto was just an hour away from Motel-341 by highway but we decided to take the backroads instead that bordered the St Lawerence river. The scene couldn't have been more idyllic and what better mode of transportation than a Moto Guzzi V7 Racer to carry us towards our impending destination. We could have stopped for photographs, but somehow, it would have felt like we were ruining the moment. There is something serene about riding along a backroad on a motorcycle. Its engine note is intoxicating yet relaxing along these country roads. Topping the cherry on the cake was having my son sitting behind me as he effortlessly leaned into some twisties with me. A natural born biker he is.

From Concept To Skin: The Joys & Tribulations Of Tattooing Script - Inked By Mario RJ Corbin

Fun With Script - Old Newspaper Type Font
Tattooing script, any script, has been quite a challenge and I have found myself turning away clients who wanted certain fonts (e.g. Calibri or Times New Roman). My first venture in tattooing script professionally was with a very patient and kind young woman, Ms Méthot. My family and I had met her at La Maison du Cinéma where she works. She already has an assortment of eclectic tattoos and has actually had apprentices tattoo her before. So she didn't seem the least bit hesitant or worried when we met three weeks ago for her first tattoo session. Armed with a friend, Jennifer, she braved having the letters Representamen and Iconicity tattooed on her forearms by yours truly. Today we also tattooed the words Therefore and Chrysalis on the back of her arms just above her elbows. The experience was, all said and done, both terrifying and mixed with a profound sense of relief that it is over and that it came out fine. Not least because I originally screwed up the first session with one of two fonts that was chosen.

Coming of Age: Father & Son Motorcycle Trip On a Moto Guzzi V7 Racer - Day 1!

Bella & Joel - After 350+kilometers we found this little gem of a motel
in what felt like the middle of nowhere!
It seems like just yesterday that my oldest son had just come of age and had his very first motorcycle ride with me atop Serenity, my former Suzuki Intruder way back in the summer of 2013. Somewhere between that time and everything in between my baby boy grew up. Turning 12 this month and with high school looming above his head this September, I felt the need to mark the occasion in such a way that will be memorable for both him and I. Whilst I am not sure what he will think of this trip in twenty years, I confess that I hope his memories of the three day road trip will be more favourable than Robert Pirsig's son Chris in Zen & The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. I wanted the experience to be stress free and minus the structure that he is about to enter next month when he starts high school. What little planning was made revolved around a general direction and sense of where we wanted to be and what we wanted to see. There would be long hours on the saddle and it would also be a test of his endurance as he had never travelled for so long on a motorcycle before. Naturally, Bella, my 2014 Moto Guzzi V7 Racer was more than up to the challenge and lended a sense of excitement and class to the whole experience.

DesTinaTion: Capelton Mines!

Getting Cozy With My Mother In-Law
If you are in and around the Eastern Townships of Quebec and are looking for an escape from the heatwave that we have been experiencing these past few weeks look no further than the Capelton Mines located just minutes outside of Lennoxville. Despite having lived next to the mines for nearly a decade now I was pleasantly surprised at how interesting and enjoyable the overall experience was. They offer English tours (as well as French) which often means smaller groups. The latter in particular I think is key to getting the most out of being inside the cave. Despite it being a rather large mine, most of it is flooded so you will be restricted to the first four levels. There is a small (one room) museum, gift shop and of course they serve up some sandwiches upon request. However, whilst the sandwiches are pretty good, they are also pretty pricey so you are better off packing a lunch imho. Furthermore, if going underground doesn't appeal to you, there is still plenty to see and do around the museum and gift shop. This is a very picture heavy blog so for those of you who don't like to read, you are in luck!
