|Life After Death|
Since completing the Macabre Jackalope for Darrin, he decided one wasn't enough and wanted to start a complete sleeve with the theme of life and death. He found a fox online that he quite liked and we modified it to make it his own. This included not only removing some parts of the original image but equally, adding a growing evergreen sapling from the inside of the fox itself. The end results was this very sweet, yet sad image now permanently tattooed onto Darrin's upper arm. Adding to the excitement of today's session was the fact that the stencil I used didn't stick to Darrin for more than five minutes! The adventures of tattooing continues...
I ended up getting most of the fox outlined with the stencil and simply filled in the areas that needed to be done with a sharpie. As for the evergreen sapling, I did that freehand with just my tattoo machine. It is not identical to the original but close enough and I think it was actually really fun to just trust in my own artistic abilities. The sapling is based off an image that Darrin provided me with of a real sapling. Overall, Darrin is happy with the work and I am equally as chuffed. The ribs are darker in the picture than they will be when it is healed (in case you were wondering). A 7RL and a 7RS and 15 Curved Magnum were used to complete both this tattoo and the touch ups for the Macabre Jackalope. Ink of choice was Eternal Ink (as always) with two shades of green and two shades of orange used to bring this little fox back to "life" again. In touching up the Macabre Jackalope, I re-did the grey in particular as I realized that diluting it was not necessary the first time I completed it. Overall, the jackalope has received quite a lot of positive buzz. I am hoping this little fox and its evergreen sapling will be equally as well received.
